Webscan Documentation

Webscan Lessons

A guided, hands-on path from your first scan to running accessibility audits at scale. Work through the lessons in order — each one builds on the last and ends with a short exercise you do in your own account.

If you want a quick reference instead of a course, see the User Guide.

How to use these lessons

  • Do them in order. Later lessons assume you've done the earlier ones (you'll have an organization, a website, and a scan to work with).
  • Keep webscan open in another tab. Every lesson is a walkthrough of the real screens — you learn by clicking along.
  • Practise on a safe site. Use a development or staging site, or a site you own. Lesson 1 explains why the environment you pick matters.
  • Each lesson takes 10–20 minutes.

Phase 1 · Foundations

Get productive in about an hour. By the end you can scan a site and understand every result.

  1. The webscan mental model — how organizations, projects, websites, scans, findings, and issues fit together.
  2. Set up your account & team — organizations, roles, invitations, and where plans and billing live.
  3. Add your first website — projects, websites, and choosing the right environment.
  4. Run your first scan — start a scan, watch it run, and read the results.
  5. Anatomy of a finding — WCAG mapping, affected elements, evidence, and remediation guidance.

Phase 2 · Triage & the fix workflow

Turn raw scan results into confirmed, tracked, fixed, and verified work.

  1. Verdicts — what a verdict is, and deciding which findings are real.
  2. Issues — track a fix with an owner, status, discussion, and evidence.
  3. AI remediation assistance — generate and responsibly review AI drafts.
  4. Connect your source code — GitHub, sandbox-verified fixes, and pull requests.
  5. Retests & auto-verify — prove a fix works before you close the issue.

Phase 3 · Beyond the public page

Reach the pages and barriers a simple public scan can't — behind logins, inside flows, and beyond what automation can measure.

  1. Authenticated scanning — scan pages behind a login with authentication and scan profiles.
  2. Agentic exploration — give webscan a goal and let it discover and scan interactive pages.
  3. User journeys — script an important multi-step flow and scan it the same way every time.
  4. Manual audits — human testing against WCAG checkpoints for the barriers automation misses.

Phase 4 · Auditing at scale

Broaden your coverage and keep it honest over time — real user sessions, site-specific rules, smart prioritisation, and continuous monitoring.

  1. Recorded audit sessions — capture real interactions with the browser extension and triage what they surface.
  2. Custom rules — teach webscan to catch patterns specific to your site.
  3. Prioritisation & the verdict model — how findings are ranked, and how your verdicts train the model.
  4. Monitoring — schedule repeat scans and get alerted on regressions.

Phase 5 · Delivery & governance

Deliver your work as reports, run every feature safely on live sites, and manage your team.

  1. Reports & branding — generate shareable, branded reports for each audience.
  2. Environments, blast radius & production safety — what's safe to run on a live site, and why.
  3. Team, roles & governance — manage members, access, and account settings.

That's the full path. For quick day-to-day reference, the User Guide is the searchable companion to these lessons.
